Where Is It in Excel for Mac? PivotTable, Data Analysis, Solver, Power Query and the Developer Tab

Quick answer: In Excel for Mac, PivotTable is on the Insert tab, Data Analysis and Solver are add-ins you switch on from Tools ▸ Excel Add-ins, the Developer tab is enabled in Excel ▸ Settings ▸ Ribbon & Toolbar, and Options from Windows is Excel ▸ Settings (Preferences in older versions).

If you moved from Windows, many features did not disappear. They moved to the Mac menu bar. Here is where each one lives.

Data Analysis and Solver

These are add-ins. Open Tools ▸ Excel Add-ins, tick Analysis ToolPak and Solver Add-in, and click OK. Data Analysis and Solver then appear on the Data tab.

Power Query

Recent Microsoft 365 builds of Excel for Mac include Data ▸ Get Data (Power Query). Availability depends on your Excel version, so if you cannot see it, update Excel from Help ▸ Check for Updates.

  1. Open Excel ▸ Settings ▸ Ribbon & Toolbar.

  2. In the list of main tabs, tick Developer and save.

  3. The Visual Basic Editor is under Tools ▸ Macro ▸ Visual Basic Editor. Option+F11 opens it from the keyboard (hold Fn if function keys are not standard).
