File Cut Paste App is a macOS utility that brings Windows-style ⌘X / ⌘V cut and paste to Finder. Select a file, press ⌘X, navigate anywhere, then ⌘V to move it — Finder does the actual move, entirely on-device.

If cut and paste is not working on your Mac for files, it is usually not a bug: Finder does not support ⌘X on files at all, so the shortcut is ignored (it works only in text fields and documents). Use File Cut Paste App to enable ⌘X and ⌘V for files, or use Option+⌘V after copying. If cut and paste fails in text or apps, restart the app, check that a modifier key is not stuck, and make sure you are pressing ⌘ (Command), not Ctrl.

To cut and paste photos or pictures on Mac, select the image files in Finder, press ⌘X (with File Cut Paste App installed), open the destination folder and press ⌘V. The images are moved to the new folder. Inside the Photos app or an image editor, ⌘X and ⌘V cut and paste image content as usual.

Copy (⌘C) duplicates a file or text and leaves the original in place. Cut (⌘X) removes the original once you paste. Paste (⌘V) puts the item in the new location. On Mac, Finder only offers copy-and-paste natively; File Cut Paste App adds cut so a cut-and-paste moves the file, just like on Windows.
